Ric Campbell led the room through Self-Determination Theory and its three conditions for motivation, agency, competence and meaning, with rounds of free writing and teachers' own stories of learning along the way.

Ric Campbell made the case for cognitive apprenticeship, teaching that models the thinking behind the answer rather than the answer alone, so that the invisible work of a mathematician, historian or reader becomes something students can watch and learn.
